About Me

Gary Miles Eastbourne Chiropractor

Hello I’m Gary Miles, a Chiropractor based at Lushington Chiropractic Clinic in Eastbourne. I earned my Master’s in Chiropractic from the Anglo European Chiropractic College in Bournemouth as a mature student.

Before studying to become a chiropractor I worked for 10 years in investment banking. It was during this time I was introduced to Chiropractic care due to back pain as a result of long hours of “typical” office/desk unhealthy posture.

After receiving advice and care from a local Chiropractor I decided to change to a healthier life style and began investing in his health. This led to an interest in sport and fitness. I joined a local triathlon club and have never looked back completed 9 marathons and 1 Ironman distance triathlon to date.

Through triathlon training I was reintroduced to what chiropractic care can do for function and performance. It was at this point my interest was piqued and I decided on a change career path and signed up to study to become a Chiropractor.

I am a firm believer that “prevention is better than the cure” and I’m extremely passionate about ensuring that all his patients receive high quality personalised treatment. His treatment plans are tailored to each individual, whether it is for pain relief, wellness, helping his patients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Introduction into Chiropractic

I was introduced to chiropractic in Bournemouth. At the time I was working long stressful hours sat at a desk and had started to suffer from low back pain and headaches.

Having sought help from Doctors and Physiotherapists to no resolution. It was my Mother that suggested visiting a Chiropractor at the Anglo European Chiropractic College. She had received treatment there over the last 20 years and thoroughly recommended it.

After several adjustment and rehabilitation sessions my posture had improved, and pain was relieved.

I would end up going back to receive treatment for various sports overuse injuries accumulated from training. It was at this point that I started to build up a passion to learn more about sports injuries and biomechanics.

Sports Chiropractic

Practicing as a chiropractor in Eastbourne I see patients of all ages and stages of life, however his area of special interest is providing chiropractic treatment and rehabilitation for sports injuries and helping with your performance in your sport. Understanding the biomechanics involved in a particular sport and where disfunction may arise, can be very challenging but equally as rewarding when a patient hits their particular goal.

I have always had a passion for treating sports injuries after seeing so many working with sports teams and clubs.

Why I love being in Practice

The main thing I love about being a Chiropractor here in Eastbourne is that no two days are the same. Seeing a variety of different people from different age groups and backgrounds all with several complaints and it is truly amazing to see the difference we can make to a person’s quality of life.

I just wanted to leave a review to say how impressed I was with the service and treatment. I've used chiropractors for years and found that some are better than others. It's hard to know who to choose but I was recommended personally and since talking to some friends it seems I'm one of the last to find this fabulous chiropractor! She's a gem. I found her more attentive and genuine than (some) other chiropractors I've seen in the past. But most of all, the treatment was excellent. She did some muscle work to my jaw and neck, which immediately helped my headache. The treatment itself was painful, but she was calm about everything and you felt safe. She explained everything before (and during) the treatment and I was quite happy. Obviously it's all private healthcare but for someone as good as this well worth the money. Tried and tested, highly recommended.

My First Chiropractic Treatment

I decided that I wanted to become a chiropractor when I was working at an investment bank in Bournemouth. Whilst I was working long hours at a desk and completing a lot of sporting events, I began to suffer from low back pain and foot pain. I tried various treatment to help relieve my back pain and foot pain, but nothing helped.

I was becoming frustrated because it was affecting my work and training. Although I was young, fit and healthy, I couldn’t do the sports and activities that I loved.

I almost gave up on my training because even basic running was very painful. I was frustrated that nothing was helping.

Chiropractic Recommendation

I hadn’t thought about chiropractic treatment until my mother recommended that I go and see a chiropractic. She had been receiving care on and off for many years and I thought that it couldn’t hurt to give it a try. I wasn’t sure what was causing my pain and decided to follow my mother’s advice and setup an appointment. I’m thankful now that I did!

The chiropractor I saw was exceptional. She listened carefully to my story and did a thorough physical examination. She reviewed my history and explained exactly what was going on. The chiropractor was very caring and reassured me that they could help.

Chiropractic Treatment for Back Pain

I was really impressed with the chiropractic treatment. In fact, I was so impressed by how effective the treatment was for my low back pain and leg pain that I started to think about chiropractic as a change in career. I wanted to be able to help people and make a difference to their lives.

Chiropractic treatment helped me, when other treatment modalities couldn’t. I was back to training and soon after completed my marathon.

The more research I did about chiropractic the more impressed I was with the profession. The qualification and training process were particularly rigorous (4 or 5 years full-time at University), and all chiropractors must meet ongoing regulatory requirements, with ongoing research, training and learning etc.

I spoke to more people about chiropractic and realised how common it was to see a chiropractor and how popular chiropractic treatment was. I was so inspired by this common-sense approach to treatment that I decided to become a chiropractor myself.

I then enrolled at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) to start my four-year Master’s Degree in chiropractic.

My Journey to Become a Chiropractor in Eastbourne

Since I first decided to visit the chiropractor, I’ve completed 8 more marathons and many long-distance triathlons without pain. I couldn’t have done this without regular visits to my chiropractor. I wish I had realised sooner how chiropractic care could help me.

This is why I love being a chiropractor. I love seeing people achieving similar results and being able to enjoy the care they receive. My aim is to provide the same level of care I received from my chiropractor.

As I practice here in Eastbourne I always remember the compassion and careful explanation my first chiropractor gave me.

I understand that some people are nervous about seeing a chiropractor for the first time.

In my experience, I’ve seen people of all ages with a wide range of different problems. I believe that every person should be treated as an individual and receive personal care and treatment. That’s why I love working at Lushington Chiropractic Clinic in Eastbourne, where every person is welcome.

You’ll see from some of Lushington Chiropractic’s Google and Facebook Reviews, why I was so impressed with this lovely clinic, and why I was so pleased to join their team in 2019.

I feel a great connection with their chiropractic values and have loved living and practicing as a chiropractor in Eastbourne.

Chiropractic Qualifications

AECC, MChiro

I completed a Masters of Chiropractic (MChiro) degree from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC), which is Europe’s largest and most established chiropractic college.

The course I took was a full-time, four-year degree programme which combines both practical aspects and theoretical knowledge of chiropractic. This Master’s Degree is recognised and accredited by the General Chiropractic Council.

The content of this degree programme is designed to allow students to gain clinical experience right from the beginning of their studies. During the last year of formal training, chiropractic students become interns in AECC’s purpose built chiropractic teaching clinic. At this point, interns are able to treat patients under supervision.

This process in the final year allowed me to refine my clinical chiropractic skills and develop as a healthcare professional. I was able to gain the clinical experience necessary to provide the highest standard of care.

Royal College of Chiropractors’ Post-Registration Training

I have embarked on the Royal College of Chiropractors post-registration training programme. This is a 1-2 year UK’s Graduate Education Programme for chiropractors. Post registration training (PRT) allows scope for a smooth transition from undergraduate settings to professional practice.

The post-registration training programme allows chiropractors to reflect on their clinical practice and professional skills and develop them to provide the highest standard of care.

All three of the Chiropractic Associations within the UK recognise the exceptional value of post-registration training. The British Chiropractic Association requires successful completion of the post-registration training before assigning their full chiropractic membership.

Continuing Professional Development

Chiropractors registered with the GCC and practicing within the UK are expected to complete continuing professional development. These can take the form of educational seminars within a field of interest to the chiropractor. These seminars are a great way to develop as a practitioner.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is the use of acupuncture needles in the treatment of muscles. These techniques offer a safe and effective way to rapidly reduce musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
