About Me

Hi I’m Stuart Soffe a Doctor of Chiropractic, based on the Sussex Coast. I’ve written this website “Clearly Chiropractic” to share some facts about chiropractic but also to share what motivates me in my personal chiropractic practice.

I was inspired by my experience of chiropractic treatment to train to be a chiropractor myself. The treatment was transformational. It was quick, effective and I appreciated that the chiropractor was actually “doing something” rather than just recommending more painkillers. So as soon as I could I changed my career. I stopped work and returned to full-time studies as a mature student.

I studied at the prestigious Anglo-European College of Chiropractic. After completing their four-year, full-time Degree & Masters combined programme, I qualified with a Masters in Chiropractic Sciences (MChiro). Once qualified I wanted to come back home to begin practice in Sussex.

So, shortly after qualifying I started practicing as a chiropractor at Hastings Chiropractic Clinic. I loved it. Although very challenging at times, I found being a chiropractor a real privilege. It’s so rewarding to make a difference and help people.

Although I had finished my formal chiropractic qualifications and training I wanted to learn more. So I took my chiropractic studies further by completing the a PgCert in Professional Development Chiropractic, this also took me on to become a Member of the Royal College of Chiropractors.

I’m really proud of Hastings Chiropractic Clinic. They’re a wonderful team and the patients are lovely. The clinic has been great and helped get me started as a Chiropractor, and the Chiropractic mentoring and support is really appreciated.

That was some years ago and since beginning there I’ve branched out to run my own chiropractic clinic in Seaford, East Sussex and also worked in London. My heart always remained here in Sussex, so jumped at the opportunity to work with the chiropractic team at Lushington in Eastbourne in 2016 as a locum chiropractor.

I’d known about Lushington Chiropractic’s reputation since I was a student and had been there to observe a number of times. The clinic has an excellent reputation in the chiropractic world, reflected by the various awards and accolades they’ve been awarded.

I understand that the clinic is the largest chiropractic clinic in Eastbourne. As well as the team of chiropractors they have some excellent Sports Massage Therapists, Acupuncturists, Counsellors etc.

I was delighted when James (the clinic director) asked me to join the team on a permanent basis, rather than just as a locum chiropractor. I’d really enjoyed helping them as a locum. The longer you work here to more you realise how passionate the clinic director and the whole team are about their chiropractic treatment and caring for the people who come here.

This kind of genuine caring focus on the individual person was exactly what I was looking for. So as well as my small practice, which I’ve kept going at Hastings Chiropractic Clinic, my main chiropractic focus is now at Lushington Chiropractic Clinic in Eastbourne.

Specialist in the prevention, treatment & rehabilitation of sports injuries

I’ve always been very active with sport, and through my own personal sporting injuries, I developed an interest in the treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of sporting injuries. This drove me to further my learning and attend seminars from world leaders in the field of sports medicine and sports chiropractic.

As my chiropractic career has developed I’ve had great opportunities to work with a range of sports people and have even travelled internationally, proving chiropractic treatment at sporting events.

I really enjoy applying my chiropractic treatment and knowledge to improve the musculoskeletal health of the patients I treat.

My other interests are in the mind-body connection, how our mental health can influence our physical health. I find it fascinating that our emotions and behaviours can have a profound impact on our physical health and pain threshold.

This led me to do additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Clinical Hypnosis. Which I have found to be useful tool for helping certain patients.

Sussex’s Surfing Chiropractor

When I’m not working as a chiropractor, I like to surf off Eastbourne’s beaches and along the Sussex coastline. I’ve been surfing for over 20 years and enjoy it as much today as when I first began.

I’m very much a people person and love to spend time with my family and friends across Sussex, as well as looking after my pet cat Herbina.

I started my chiropractic journey whilst travelling through Australia. My back went after picking up a heavy suitcase, I was left with terrible back pain. Any movement was excruciatingly painful; I couldn’t even put my socks on without sharp shooting back pain. So, I decided to visit a chiropractor. He clearly explained the problem to me and after a couple of weeks of treatment my back had never felt so good.

I was so impressed with chiropractic treatment, that when I came back to Sussex I decided to enrol on a course to start my journey to becoming a chiropractor. I took my formal chiropractic qualifications at Europe’s oldest chiropractic college, the Anglo European College of Chiropractic (AECC).

I’ll never forget the severe pain I suffered in Australia. Not only was the pain horrendous but it was frightening as well. I was otherwise young, healthy and very fit.

The pain had started suddenly as a popping / tearing sensation. I was sure my disc had slipped out! I was doubled up in pain, tying to rely on painkillers to help.

I’d never considered chiropractic treatment before – I’d never had any problems! However, I was in pain and although people recommended I should try chiropractic treatment I was nervous about seeing them.

I’d heard about chiropractic before but wasn’t sure what the treatment was. I was nervous the treatment might hurt and also that I might need to get undressed.

The chiropractor I saw was excellent. From the start he was kind, reassuring and caring. He reviewed my history and did a careful examination before explaining what had really happened. The chiropractor confirmed that he didn’t think I’d slipped a disc, but more importantly he was confident he could help.

He knew I was worried about trying chiropractic treatment, because I was already in so much pain, so he took extra time to explain everything.

The care and attention my chiropractor took was appreciated. I was really impressed by the chiropractic treatment and expertise. From the first treatment I started to feel better. Within a couple of weeks I felt much better again. It almost seemed like a miracle cure for my back pain.

Not only did the chiropractors treatment help me quickly and effectively but he showed me exercises to keep my back stronger and help prevent it going into spasm again whilst I was on holiday.

The biggest impression though was the caring and highly professional attitude this chiropractor had. So when I got back to the UK I began my journey to retrain as a chiropractor.

Throughout my training and career my goal has always been to deliver the same level of care and understanding I received when I first saw a chiropractor.

Chiropractic treatment helped me when I needed it most and I take that responsibility very seriously with every new patient I see.

It’s been a long time since I graduated and I’ve worked in various places across the South of England, even running my own Chiropractic Clinic in Seaford at one time.

I’ve seen a wide range of people with all sorts of different problems. I still find it an honour and very rewarding to help people with chiropractic treatment. That’s why I created this website, to share my chiropractic story and raise awareness of how this type of treatment can make such a difference.

I’ve never stopped learning and always enjoy meeting a new patient. There are so many techniques and additional treatments we can use to help people that there’s always something to improve on. It very important to me to treat each person as an individual, which is why, even when I was still a student and went to visit them for some mentoring observations I was particularly impressed with Lushington Chiropractic.

If you check out some of Lushington Chiropractic’s Google and Facebook Reviews (which are left by patients directly) and you’ll see why I was so impressed. I feel a great connection with their values and have loved practicing here in Eastbourne so much.

AECC, MChiro

I obtained a Masters of Chiropractic (MChiro) from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC)

This four year full time degree programme combines practical and theoretical learning and is accredited by the General Chiropractic Council.

The programme content and structure is designed to give students clinical experience from day one. During the last year of training, students begin to treat patients within the purpose built AECC clinic. This process in the final year helped to refine my clinical skills and develop as a healthcare professional, whilst gaining the experience necessary to deliver the highest standards of care.

The Royal College of Chiropractors Post-registration Training Programme

The Royal College of Chiropractors post-registration training programme is the UK’s Graduate Education Programme for recently qualified Chiropractors. Post registration training helps to ensure a smooth transition from the undergraduate setting to an autonomous professional practice.

All three of the British Chiropractic associations recognise the value of post-registration training. The British Chiropractic Association requires successful completion of the post-registration training before assigning full Chiropractic membership.

PgCert, Professional Development Chiropractic

Within my first year of clinical practice I completed a PgCert into professional development from Bournemouth University. The aim of this course was to build upon and improve my clinical skills in diagnosis and patient management.
