About Me

Eastbourne Chiropractor

Hello I’m Gemma Crouch, a Doctor of Chiropractic based at Lushington Chiropractic Clinic in Eastbourne.

My inspiration to become a chiropractor began when I was a child. I used to visit the chiropractor with my mother. I always enjoyed the visits and was amazed that such gentle treatment seemed to help so much.

When I was a teenager, I was getting frustrated with my low back and leg pain, which was stopping me from playing sports. So, I decided to return to our family chiropractor and try some chiropractic treatment myself.

The treatment I received was exceptional. The chiropractic adjustments were gentle and very quickly my back and leg pain was feeling better. Soon, I was back on the running track with my favourite sports and activities. I appreciated the chiropractic treatment more than ever because it had been so effective at getting rid of the pain. I also felt much better in myself and was pleased that I didn’t need to rely on painkillers anymore. It was at this point that I decided that a career in chiropractic was meant for me.

Before starting my chiropractic education, I completed my first honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science. I graduated from the University of Bath where I also achieved my hockey colours. I then began the 4-year Masters in Chiropractic course at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic where my final year research project protocol was acknowledged by the Royal College of Chiropractors.

Once I had completed my studies, I moved to Eastbourne to begin practicing at Lushington Chiropractic Clinic.

My first visit to Eastbourne was when I ran the Brighton Marathon in 2016. I instantly liked the area due to the seaside location and community feel so decided that I would like to visit the area again.

As a chiropractic student, I contacted James Revell the Clinic Director at Lushington Chiropractic to see if I could observe their team of chiropractors Eastbourne. The clinic has an excellent reputation and I was delighted when he agreed to have me visit. During my observations, I was able to gain an insight into how well a multi-disciplinary team including Chiropractors, Sports Massage Therapists, Counsellors and Acupuncturists can work. The clinic has a great team spirit and the practitioners always put their guest’s (patient’s) needs first.

Eastbourne’s most Popular Chiropractic Clinic

Lushington Chiropractic is Eastbourne’s largest and most popular chiropractic and sports massage clinic. The clinic and their chiropractors have an outstanding reputation in the chiropractic profession and locally throughout Eastbourne. You can see the clinic’s considerable professional reputation is reflected by the many rewards and accolades it has achieved, as well as the testimonials and reviews from their patients.

Following on from my opportunity to observe the chiropractors and other practitioners at Lushington Chiropractic Clinic during my visits to Eastbourne, I was delighted to be offered an associate position by the Clinic Director at the clinic.

Since I moved to Eastbourne everyone at the clinic, including my guests and the other team members have been supportive and helpful. I very much enjoy living and working in Eastbourne. I make use of the wonderful outdoors locally, and enjoy running along Eastbourne’s seafront as well as playing hockey locally.

As a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC), I’m passionate about helping people improve their function and enjoy a healthier lifestyle through chiropractic care. I have treated people of all ages and stages of life from babies to the elderly. With my keen interest in sports, I also enjoy treating guests with sporting backgrounds.

If you’re thinking about seeing a chiropractor in Eastbourne, then you’ll be in great hands with any of our chiropractors at Lushington. The whole team are very passionate about the care they provide and genuinely caring for the people who see us.

Pregnancy and Paediatric Chiropractic in Eastbourne

I have a strong interest in pregnancy and paediatric chiropractic care from pregnancy, to birth and beyond. I have focused a lot of my continuing chiropractic professional development in this area and have attended educational seminars from the world leaders in pregnancy and paediatric chiropractic care.

I love being able to provide chiropractic care to the whole family and see improvements to their musculoskeletal health. One of the great things about being a chiropractor in Eastbourne is that your reputation spreads quickly. It wasn’t long after I started practicing here in Eastbourne that I’d built a busy paediatric chiropractic practice again. I’d like to thank all the Mums, Dads and midwives throughout Eastbourne who’ve recommended me and this type of gentle chiropractic care.

If you’re local to Eastbourne and have any questions about chiropractic treatment during pregnancy or for new-borns, babies and children then you’d be welcome to book a 10minute complimentary consultation with me. I’ll also be happy to talk to you on the phone if it’s difficult to get in.

Remember that chiropractic care is for the whole family, for every age and every stage of life. Whilst I have a special interest and understanding of paediatric and pregnancy chiropractic I regularly see people of all sizes, ages and stages of life.

I just wanted to leave a review to say how impressed I was with the service and treatment. I've used chiropractors for years and found that some are better than others. It's hard to know who to choose but I was recommended personally and since talking to some friends it seems I'm one of the last to find this fabulous chiropractor! She's a gem. I found her more attentive and genuine than (some) other chiropractors I've seen in the past. But most of all, the treatment was excellent. She did some muscle work to my jaw and neck, which immediately helped my headache. The treatment itself was painful, but she was calm about everything and you felt safe. She explained everything before (and during) the treatment and I was quite happy. Obviously it's all private healthcare but for someone as good as this well worth the money. Tried and tested, highly recommended.

My First Chiropractic Treatment

I decided that I wanted to become a chiropractor when I was at University studying my first degree, which was Sports and Exercise Science. Whilst I was competing in sport at University I began to suffer from low back pain and leg pain. I tried various treatment to help relieve my back pain and leg pain but nothing helped.

I was becoming frustrated because it was affecting training and although I was young, fit and healthy, I couldn’t do the sports and activities that I loved.

I almost gave up on my training because even basic running was so painful. I was frightened and frustrated that nothing was helping.

Family Chiropractor

I hadn’t thought about chiropractic treatment until my mother recommended I go and see our old family chiropractor. I wasn’t sure what was causing my pain and decided to follow my mother’s advice and called the chiropractor. I’m thankful now that I did!

The chiropractor I saw was exceptional. She listened carefully to my story and did a thorough physical examination. She reviewed my history and explained what was going on. The chiropractor was very caring and reassured me that she could help.

She explained that I had a misalignment in my pelvis which was putting pressure onto my lower back and leg muscles.

Chiropractic Treatment for Back Pain and Leg Pain

When I was a child I’d been intrigued with the chiropractic adjustments, and how they seemed so gentle but made such a difference. As a teenage University student I was really impressed with the chiropractic treatment. In fact, I was so impressed by how effective the treatment was for my low back pain and leg pain that I started to think about chiropractic as my future career.

Chiropractic treatment helped me, when everything else couldn’t. I was back to sports and soon after completed my first half-marathon.

The more research I did about chiropractic the more impressed I was with the profession. The qualification and training process was particularly rigorous (4 or 5 years full-time at University), and all chiropractors have to meet ongoing regulatory requirements, with ongoing research, training and learning etc.

I spoke to more people about chiropractic and realised how common it was to see a chiropractor and how popular chiropractic treatment was. I was so inspired by this common-sense approach to treatment that I decided to become a chiropractor myself.

I completed my Sports and Exercise Science degree and then enrolled at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) to start my years of chiropractic Masters Degree studies.

My Journey to Become a Chiropractor in Eastbourne

Since I decided to visit the chiropractor I’ve completed 3 more half-marathons and the Brighton Marathon without any pain. I couldn’t have done this without regular visits to my chiropractor. I wish I had realised sooner how chiropractic care could help me.

This is why I love being a chiropractor. I love seeing people achieving similar results and being able to enjoy the care they receive. My aim is to provide the same level of care I received from my chiropractor.

As I practice here in Eastbourne I always remember the compassion and careful explanation our family chiropractor gave me when I needed her as a teenager.

I understand that some people are nervous about seeing a chiropractor for the first time.

In my experience, I’ve seen people of all ages (including babies) with a wide range of different problems. I believe that every person should be treated as an individual and receive personal care and treatment. That’s why I love working at Lushington Chiropractic Clinic in Eastbourne, where every person is welcome.

You’ll see from some of Lushington Chiropractic’s Google and Facebook Reviews, why I was so impressed with this lovely clinic, and why I was so pleased to join their team in 2017.

I feel a great connection with their chiropractic values and have loved living and practicing as a chiropractor in Eastbourne.

Chiropractic Qualifications

AECC, MChiro

I completed a Masters of Chiropractic (MChiro) degree from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC), which is Europe’s largest and most established chiropractic college.

The course I took was a full-time, four-year degree programme which combines both practical aspects and theoretical knowledge of chiropractic. This Master’s Degree is recognised and accredited by the General Chiropractic Council.

The content of this degree programme is designed to allow students to gain clinical experience right from the beginning of their studies. During the last year of formal training, chiropractic students become interns in AECC’s purpose built chiropractic teaching clinic. At this point, interns are able to treat patients under supervision.

This process in the final year allowed me to refine my clinical chiropractic skills and develop as a healthcare professional. I was able to gain the clinical experience necessary to provide the highest standard of care.

Pregnancy and Paediatric Chiropractic

I was also lucky enough to be chosen to be part of the local Breast feeding clinic, working alongside mid-wives. This was excellent experience, especially as I’ve had a special interest in paediatric and pregnancy chiropractic for a long-time.

Whilst I was still a student I took additional extra-curricular pregnancy and paediatric chiropractic courses, which still help me now in my paediatric chiropractic practice in Eastbourne. As an intern, I quickly built a reputation for seeing plenty of babies, pregnant mothers and was able to work with highly experienced paediatric chiropractors with the more difficult cases.

After I’ve qualified I’ve taken this area of special interest even further with more courses and experience. If you’re looking for a chiropractor in Eastbourne who has a particular interest in paediatrics and pregnancy then I’ll be pleased to help.

Royal College of Chiropractors’ Post-Registration Training

I have embarked on the Royal College of Chiropractors post-registration training programme. This is a 1-2 year UK’s Graduate Education Programme for chiropractors. Post registration training (PRT) allows scope for a smooth transition from undergraduate settings to professional practice.

The post-registration training programme allows chiropractors to reflect on their clinical practice and professional skills and develop them to provide the highest standard of care.

All three of the Chiropractic Associations within the UK recognise the exceptional value of post-registration training. The British Chiropractic Association requires successful completion of the post-registration training before assigning their full chiropractic membership.

Continuing Professional Development

Chiropractors registered with the GCC and practicing within the UK are expected to complete continuing professional development. These can take the form of educational seminars within a field of interest to the chiropractor. These seminars are a great way to develop as a practitioner.

Professor Joyce Miller – Musculoskeletal Health of the Neonate

Dr. Joyce Miller is an associate professor and senior clinical tutor at the AECC. This chiropractic course focused on the musculoskeletal health of the neonate and the place of chiropractic care in treatment for the child. It was a useful adjunct to my chiropractic training and progressed my knowledge in the particular field of paediatric chiropractic care.

SOTO Europe – Foundations of Sacro-Occipital Technique 1 & 2

Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) is a system of chiropractic care originally developed by Dr M. B. DeJarnette in 1925. SOT is a holistic approach to chiropractic healthcare which involves cranial work and a detailed analysis and correction of the spine and pelvis.

SOTO (Sacro-Occipital Technique Organisation) Europe is one of a recognised organisations formed in 1986 under the leadership of Dr J. Howat. SOTO Europe aims to teach technique seminars for chiropractors and promote scientific research into SOT. I use this gentle type of chiropractic treatment with many of my patients in Eastbourne.

Steve Williams DC – Pregnancy and Birth Trauma

Steve Williams is a well-known international lecturer in chiropractic paediatrics who helped developed many degree courses for postgraduate studies in chiropractic paediatrics and a prestigious seminar series for chiropractors interested in pregnancy and paediatrics. He is a past Director of Academic Affairs for the College of Chiropractors Faculty of Paediatrics.

This is the first seminar of the series and focuses on management of pain syndromes associated with pregnancy and the effects of birth trauma on infants. I’ve found this lecture and the course series particularly useful when considering some of the more complicated pregnancy and new-born baby chiropractic cases I’ve seen as part of my paediatric chiropractic practice in Eastbourne.

Steve Williams DC – Neonatal Examination, Spinal & Cranial Correction

This is the second seminar of the series and focuses on the chiropractic examination and correction of spinal, cranial and extremity conditions of the infant. It focuses more on cranial chiropractic techniques.

I use “cranial treatment” also known as “cranial chiropractic” with people of all ages. But I most commonly use it as part of my paediatric practice in Eastbourne. Young children and babies get on particularly well with this technique because it’s so gentle.
